Olympic Trials Update |
|
|
Stephanie
finished in 5th
place after the final round of the Olympic Trials, not on the team
but a great performance. She's very pleased with the results after
making a gallant effort to catch archers who trained full time while
she attend school. Her coach Ron McCormick said "we are stronger and
better from this experience". "We want to thank ChicagolandJOAD,
Chicago Bow Hunters and especially Francis Field Youth Foundation
for their support. Lets all get behind our team and give them our
support".

During the
Olympic Trials we received notice of the
passing of Ann Hoyt. Ann and Earl were great
supporters of archery. Ann took an active interest
in the USA JOAD program and was a strong supporter
of Chicagoland JOAD from our very beginning.
Chicagoland JOAD will miss her.

Former
ChicagolandJOAD member Stephanie Miller and her coach Ron McCormick
returned from the 1st stage of the
Olympic Trials victorious finishing 12th in the cut to 16 in the
first of three rounds of trials. Having seen success in every JOAD
division, College and internationally as a senior, Stephanie can add
one more accomplishment to her already stellar career.
Forgoing archery training to get her degree from
Columbia University
she had to play catch up to other archers by training 44 hours a
week since graduating in June of 2007. Stephanie's coach Ron
McCormick says "Watching her archery skills deteriorate for four
years while she focused on academics was difficult even though it
was my advice to her to put education first"." She has her degree
now so we can focus on getting her on an Olympic team, one of the
few archery goals she has not accomplished."

Stephanie Miller finished 13th in the Turkey Grand Prix, which was the
second leg of the Meteksan FITA Archery World Cup which took
place in Antalya, Turkey June 7-10th. Stephanie was the
highest finisher for the USA

Charlie" Charlie Ward Finished 3rd in The National Field
Championships/World Field Trials held in Spokane,
Wash. June 9-11.
This earned him a spot
on the USA World Team competing in
the 20th World Field Archery Championships August 27 – September 2 in Gottenburg, Sweden

Ed Koizumi "Mr.Incandescent"
Ed is a club member and
long time supporter of our JOAD efforts. Ed recently entered the
Silly Science Fair hosted by WGN's Kathy and Judy Show. Ed won the
Best In Show award for his project on how lighting impacts one's
appearance. Sounds like he had a ton of fun, congratulations Ed.

Stephanie Miller the first CLJ member to earn a spot on a Senior
Olympic Recurve World Team Along with her team mates
Jennifer
Nichols (Cheyenne, Wyo.),and Janet Dykman (El Monte, Calif.)took
the Gold Medal for the
U.S.A.
at the 2003 PanAm Games .
Stephanie also won the Individual
Bronze Medal.
